George D. Haskins dead at 68
KAMIAH - George Donald Haskins, 68 a retired state forestry department employee, died late Tuesday, apparently of a heart attack, at his Kamiah home.
Haskins was employed by the forestry department from 1947 until his retirement in 1971. He also worked for the U.S. Forest Service in 1926 in the Woodland area of Idaho County.
He was born March 12, 1907, at Guide Rock, Neb. to Mr. and Mrs. I. Haskins. He moved with his family to the Woodland area and later moved with his grandparents to Fargo Flats, Idaho, where he received his education.
Haskins married May Teats at Kamiah Dec. 23, 1928. They farmed in the Reubens area for two years before moving to Mabton, Wash., in 1930. They moved in 1935 to Elk, Wash., near Spokane before returning to Lewiston in 1942. They moved to Kamiah in 1947 after living at Juliaetta and Pleasant Valley.
Haskins was an avid fisherman. He attended the Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church and was a charter member of the Kamiah senior citizens group. He is survived by his widow, a son Larry, of Kamiah and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hansen-Noland Funeral Home at Kamiah. Burial will follow at the Kamiah Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Moffett of the Kamiah Community Presbyterian Church officiating.
Viewing of the body will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. Saturday. The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the heart fund.
